Exciting New Things!

Let me start by saying I apologize for being so behind on my blogging! I have done quite a few cakes since the last post. So I'll just jump right in here.

This is a red velvet cake. It was ordered by a very good customer, Scott, Super-Dog's Worlds Best Cat Litter rep. He came in on a Tuesday, and was asking all the girls in the office what kind of cake we liked. Well, being that I make cakes regularly, I of course told him about my little cake business, and he in turn asked if I could make him a cake,...that nite! So once again, cancel Tuesday nite dinner in Franklin w/mom, and send Brian to Shaws! AND, because this cake was for no other purpose than for him just to try my cake, he gave me artistic license to do whatever I wanted to do. I really had fun doing this one. No writing, and lots of color and freedom!! My favorite kind :)

The next cake order I received was actually one I had already done a trial run for (see previous blogs). I had been preparing for this cake for months. This was an order that the customer had given me a picture she found online of a cake she loved, but it was all done in Fondant. Informing the customer I don't work in fondant, I offered to do the cake in buttercream. Being that this was quite a large cake order, I had done a "trial run" for an open house that a friend of mine had. I had taken 3 cakes to her home, and the trial was one of them. Now this is the real deal. It was due the last weekend of Feb. This turned out to be a huge weekend for my hubby and I. We had planned to go to NYC this weekend with another couple of friends of ours. AND....Scott, the worlds best cat litter rep had also ordered his wife's 50th bday cake due this same weekend! So I did end up delivering both cakes on Friday, working on them thru out the week, and packing/preparing for NYC as well. We ended up leaving on Friday nite. What a crazy weekend.
No matter how many times I did a trial run cake for this job, this was a very difficult cake to do. I can't explain it, but this was really just a crazy pain. In the end, it was worth it, and ultimately a fun challenge.

This is the other cake due that same Friday 2/26. This is the cake that Scott ordered for his wife's 50th Bday. He told me she likes purple, and wanted half chocolate, half yellow cake.

The last cake below was one I just whipped up this past Saturday. My parents and Brian and I were invited to visit the new home of some old family friends. They had recently bought a beautiful home on a lake in Douglas, MA. Since I hadn't seen them since I started doing cakes, I decided to make and bring one as a house warming gift and of course, dessert! I must say, this is my best free hand writing I've EVER done. It was a Lemon cake, w/blueberries in it, and a strawberry filling. Very springy and light!

So the exciting new things I refer to is the new job on the horizon. I'm in the works to be the next Wilton instructor to teach the classes that I took thru Michael's craft store. I'm really excited, all that is standing in my way is the Michael's Manager, who has to approve my application. Technically I will be an employee of Michaels, so I had to fill out an application just like any other michael's employee. but, I will be a part of Wilton instructors. I'm hella excited to get this new part of my life on the move! I will be doing something I love doing, and getting paid for it! Cross your fingers i hear from this manager pretty soon. I'm ready to go!!

Twins B-day!

I love my neighbors! It took a while for them to grow on me, I'm not gonna lie! But they are like family to me now. Amy and Bob have 2 adorable now 6 yr olds, Jake and Jordan. These kids are amazing, and they wanted me to make them cakes for their bday party!!! So, I asked Jake and Jordan what kind of cake they each wanted, and what character they wanted on it! Jakie wanted a racecar with Yellow cake, and Jordan wanted Spongebob Red Velvet cake! (She truely is a tomboy) Their actual birthday was Jan 29th, however since we were all wicked busy that weekend, Amy decided to have their party the following weekend. Notice the "road" on the side of the cake.
Jordan's Spongebob Circle pants!
